Service Project

Sierra Service Project

One of Collin’s favorite events in high school was his service project with our family’s church: Valencia United Methodist Church (VUMC). The high school youth group was invited to join the Sierra Service Project (SSP). SSP is a non-profit organization providing life-changing experiences through acts of service, repairing Native American homes, and feeding and ministering to those in need in Los Angeles. For 2 consecutive years, 2015 and 2016, Collin and his sister Genelle, joined 15-25 other youth from VUMC and traveled to Arizona, California, and Oregon. It was a week of spirituality, work, fun, and personal growth, all without any electronics. Collin really found an intimate relationship with God during his first SSP trip. This relationship is what inspired him to excel in his studies during his junior and senior year of high school. Collin also had very strong relationships with lots of friends thanks to VUMC. Jared, Davis, Jeff, Zach, Max, Eddie and Reid just to name a few! To support this amazing service project, the Collin Gore Memorial Foundation will be providing an annual scholarship that will allow a youth to join the trip based on financial need. Collin would want to be sure that everyone has the opportunity to experience this amazing event.
